Pet Toys & The Benefits

It is easy to think that a single toy is enough for your dog but the truth is they are likely to get as bored playing with the same thing as we are! Your dogs need constant stimulation to keep them sharp and active. There are plenty of ways we can achieve this by providing them with a few different choices for play time.

A toy box for your pet need not be a big investment - an old washing basket or plastic box will do, just something that cannot be damaged or chewed through easily. This provides your dog with easy access to all his favourite toys, and also means you can move the toys easily from room to room if your pet needs constant supervision! It also creates an additional activity - taking the toys out of the box, and returning them when finished, is a favourite trick of particularly intelligent breeds such as Border Collies, who tend to enjoy ‘work’ rather than play!

Make sure that your toy box is low enough for your pet to reach into, and search through, easily. Having their toys easy to find and access will not only prevent them from getting bored, but reduce the chances of them chewing other items in the house! Make sure you have a good rotation of toys, including some that are good for their teeth, and which will develop different skills - take a look at Pets at Home's range for some inspiration.

It is so easy for toys to get lost around the house, so much so that your pet may become fed up purely because they cannot find or reach them! Going around and returning these to the box will ensure that your pet always knows where he can find something to play with, helping to prevent boredom, and hopefully staving off mischievous behaviour!
